Lumenis® M22 IPL (Photo Facial)
Photorejuvenation
Did you know Photorejuvenation refers to the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat conditions related to sun-induced skin damage? Some common skin conditions that patients struggle with are pigmentation, age/sunspots, or broken capillaries. This non-surgical treatment may be for you!
At OneLife Health & Performance, we use the Stellar M22™ IPL device from Lumenis® to effectively eliminate these spots, discolorations, and unwanted blood vessels. The Intense Pulsed Light technology utilizes filtered light rather than a laser to safely treat problem areas. Call us today to schedule a free consultation and see if our newest laser technology is the right fit in your personalized skincare plan!
What Is IPL and how does it work?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) describes the use of pulses of broad-spectrum light distributed over a range of wavelengths. The technology utilizes specific wavelengths to target various chromophores in the skin. Basically, the filtered light pulses penetrate the tissue, create heat, and specifically target the skin imperfection in a controlled manner. The Stellar M22™ IPL device uses Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT™) that controls pulse shape and length, allowing for shorter pulses. The body’s natural process then removes the treated tissue, while collagen and elastic fiber stimulation occurs, resulting in a visible improvement in skin tone and overall appearance!
Am I a Good Candidate for an IPL Photofacial?
The best candidates for an IPL Photofacial are healthy individuals with sun-damaged or hyperpigmented skin. An IPL Photofacial is beneficial for restoring discolored skin back to its younger and even-toned appearance.
An IPL Photofacial is also recommended for people who want to correct broken blood vessels that may appear in the form of blue or purple patches. It is also an excellent option for people who want to address their rosacea.
While an IPL Photofacial is not advised for people taking acne medications, it is a very effective treatment for people with acne and acne discoloration.
Before considering an IPL Photofacial, please make sure you are not pregnant and not on blood thinners or acne medication.
Your IPL Consultation
An IPL consultation will involve an assessment of your current skin concerns. The benefits of an IPL Photofacial will be discussed, as well as how long it will take for the treatment to achieve your appearance goals. Be sure to ask any questions you may have.
Prepare your complete medical history, including current medications and supplements, to help ensure that we can plan a safe treatment for you. Inform us of any allergies you may have.
The IPL Treatment:
During your treatment you may experience a warm or prickling sensation as the laser is applied to the skin, but the treatment is gentle and should not feel uncomfortable. Depending on the area, your session could take 15 to 30 minutes. To ensure your best comfort, we use topical numbing cream before treatment. The Stellar M22™ IPL features continuous contact cooling between pulses to help with comfort and reduce the chance of skin damage during your treatment!
IPL Photofacial Treatment Areas
The Stellar M22™ IPL can be used all over the body and can be used to treat:
- Age/Sun Spots
- Acne Scarring
- Broken Capillaries

- Fine Lines

- Rosacea
Some common treatable areas include: face, neck, chest, hands and arms.
IPL Photofacial Aftercare
To enjoy the best results from an IPL Photofacial, avoid sun exposure after the treatment. Use sunscreen and moisturizer to protect your skin and to prevent damage from too much light exposure.
Avoid exfoliating your skin, since the skin will be extra sensitive after an IPL Photofacial. Take a break from exercise and all other strenuous activities to prevent overheating your skin.
